Ijen Crater

Perched on the border of Banyuwangi and Bondowoso Regencies, Mount Ijen is one of Indonesia’s most unique international tourist destinations. Its highlight is the rare blue fire phenomenon, visible only in two places worldwide—here and in Iceland. Every night, visitors can witness this mesmerizing glow before sunrise, followed by breathtaking views of the turquoise acid lake and surrounding volcanic peaks. Travelers can reach Ijen via two routes:

  • Bondowoso Route: Passing through towns and lush coffee plantations on the slopes of Mount Ijen.
  • Banyuwangi Route: Recommended for visitors coming from Bali.

Both routes converge at Paltuding, the base camp where the trek to the crater begins.

Sukamade Turtle Beach

Located within Meru Betiri National Park, about 97 km southwest of Banyuwangi, Sukamade Beach is a hidden gem for eco‑tourism. This pristine coastline offers unforgettable experiences such as:

  • Observing nesting sea turtles at night
  • Releasing hatchlings into the ocean at sunrise
  • Birdwatching and camping in the national park
  • Exploring rare flora like the rafflesia flower
  • Canoeing along tranquil waters
